A Mediterranean voyage for our first cruise experience

When we first started considering taking a cruise vacation we knew we needed some help in trying to find the right fit for us. There were a lot of cruise choices available and it was hard to discern some of the subtle differences between some of those choices without the help of someone with an impartial and informed opinion.

Our search led us to Brampton CruiseShipCenters, an office not far from our home that we had seen driving by - and it seemed to us like a good place to start. On our first visit to their office location we met Elisabeth Anniehs, who became our cruise consultant. We had a good conversation with Elisabeth and once she found out our interests, likes and dislikes she gave us some suggestions on the particular cruise lines that were likely to appeal to us and which ones we should probably avoid. We had already decided that we were interested in a Mediterranean cruise, so the unknowns at this point for us were the cruise line & ship. Elisabeth gave us some great advice and information for us to consider that was truly helpful in deciding which particular cruise to book.

Armed with all the information, for our first cruise we selected a wonderful 12-night cruise starting in Venice, Italy on July 13 and ending in Barcelona, Spain on July 25, 2006 aboard Millennium, a ship operated by Celebrity Cruises - a subsidiary of Royal Caribbean Cruise Ltd.

We did have a rather interesting experience in travelling to Venice for the start of the cruise - we called it The Amazing Race.

Celebrity Millennium

With this being our first cruse we had no frame of reference as we travelled around the Mediterranean on Celebrity Millennium. It was actually just called Millennium at the time of our cruise with it being rebranded in 2008 as Celebrity Millennium when the Solstice class ships were introduced to the fleet.

Celebrity Millennium is a big ship (with a capacity of 1975 passengers at the time of our sailing) - but it did not seem overly big or crowded. Our overall impressions of the ship was good - it certainly had enough good facilities, services and choices to suit our taste.

We had a wonderful voyage on Celebrity Millennium and have very fond memories of our first cruise.
