Of our eight cruise vacations so far we have taken five of them on the same ship: Azamara Journey - one of four ships owned and operated by Azamara. At the time of our sailings Azamara was a subsidiary of Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd but as of the beginning of 2021 it was sold to private equity firm Sycamore Partners.
It really has been so far our home on the seas. We first tried Azamara Journey in 2010 for our Baltic cruise because we wanted to try a smaller ship after two cruises on larger vessels with Celebrity Cruises. We loved the experience on the smaller ship. It really did suit us better. When booking some of our subsequent cruses we had actually looked at some other cruise line options - but the combination of available itineraries and service that we knew and loved brought us back to booking again on Azamara Journey.
We followed up the Baltic cruise with a short four-day cruise on Azamara Journey around the French & Italian Riviera that put us in Monaco on the day of the 2011 Monaco Grand Prix. We were joined on that cruise by our good friends Shaun & Nona Browne. The following year we booked Azamara Journey once more for a trip around the British Isles. Azamara Journey went through a retrofit before we took it on the next cruise in 2013 in Asia. Azamara Journey went through an extensive renovation in January 2016, so we were able to see and enjoy the revised ship on our summer 2016 Mediterranean cruise.
