For this location we were anchored off the coast and would need to take a tender to get to land so the process was a little bit slower. Our plan for the day was to travel to Dunvegan Castle and to get there our bus took a very scenic tour of the Isle of Skye with its striking landscape.
With our early start we actually arrived at Dunvegan Castle before the time it is was scheduled to open. We had the time to wander around the property to discover some spectacular views around the castle. It was a setting we could have stayed at for a long time to enjoy. . . and photograph. The whole visit to Dunvegan Castle was wonderful and memorable.
Heading back to Portree we stopped for a while in Sligachan to get a very good view of the two mountain ranges know as The Cuillin and Red Cuillin. The Cuillin is also know and the Black Cuillin and is the taller, more impressive and rugged of the two ranges. The height of that range and the cloud cover over the Black Cuillin made it not quite so photogenic as its smaller and gentler Red Cuillin neighbour for the time of our visit.
We finished our day wandering around the scenic town of Portree. We grabbed lunch in one of the pubs and took in the sights of this quaint harbour town. With Azamara Journey's scheduled departure time of 5:00pm we didn't have a lot of time in Portree, but we felt like we did get the time to see what the town had to offer. All in all it had been a wonderful day in a very scenic part of Scotland.
We could have easily spent a lot longer in Skye - so perhaps this will indeed be a place to which we return in the not too distant future.
