A day that was eight years in the making - when our oldest son Matthew married Lauren Crawford on October 24, 2014 at Cambridge Mill in Cambridge, Ontario. The wedding venue was beautifully restored and expanded 19th century mill on the banks of the Grand River.
Matt & Lauren met in the fall of 2006 during their first year at the University of Guelph.
Matt & Lauren’s engagement started in the final few moments of 2012 as they prepared to ring in the new year of 2013 at Nathan Phillips Square in Toronto.
The wedding took place on a Friday evening, so that provided the nice opportunity to make slightly more relaxed preparations that day. The wedding timing did change the order of some events - the wedding party and family photos were taken before the wedding to get them in the daylight. That, of course, meant that the reveal of bride Lauren to groom Matt was done during the photo shoot at Mill Race Park adjacent to the wedding venue of Cambridge Mill. Their wedding photographers Tamara and Vlado of 1001 Photography did a wonderful job throughout the day and initially Tamara photographed the bride and her attendants while Vlado took care of the men until the reveal when they worked together.
The wedding took place in beautiful stand alone glass walled external of Cambridge Mill and the setting sun over the Grand River made for a fabulous backdrop to the wedding. It was truly an honour to have John Bishop, a good friend and pastor of our local church, officiate the wedding. Following the ceremony was the reception in the Waterfront Room and Garden Terrace of Cambridge Mill and was a wonderful evening. Michael pulled double duty as Matt’s best man and as master of ceremonies at the reception - and did a fabulous job.
It was a treat for us to have Gary’s cousin Nicola, aunt Rose and uncle Mick travel from London, England to join us in the celebration of Matt & Lauren’s wedding. They arrived on the Wednesday before the wedding and booked the first half of their stay in Niagara-on-the-Lake. We joined them in Niagara-on-the-Lake for the weekend after the wedding. For the second half of their trip they booked a stay in downtown Toronto. It made for some great family time after the wedding. We were so very pleased they were able share this special occasion with us and that we were able to spend some time together both before and after the wedding.
