The inaugral Concours d'Elegance at the Cobble Beach Golf Resort

For a few years Gary & our friend Shaun have attended British Car Day held at Bronte Creek Provincial Park in Oakville. That annual event was usually scheduled for a Sunday in September. In early September of 2013 Shaun had seen an article in the Globe & Mail promoting the inaugural Cobble Beach Concours d'Elegance scheduled for the same weekend. We discussed it and agreed that it would be worth a try and both Linda & Shaun’s wife Nona decided to make the trip up to Owen Sound for this event.

The Concours d'Elegance was scheduled to run for both Saturday & Sunday, and we opted to head up there for the Saturday. It was a beautiful day and the drive north was quite enjoyable. Parking for the event was at a nearby field and they had buses to shuttle people back and forth to the venue - which was the impressive Cobble Beach Golf Resort on the waterfront of Georgian Bay. The setting was absolutely picturesque.

For the car lover - to see this beautiful golf course on the scenic shore of Georgian Bay under a clear blue sky covered with a fantastic display of fine automobiles was awesome. Even someone not so enamoured with cars would have to agree that this was special. The cars were grouped together based on a variety of classifications and quite artistically arranged on the fairways of the golf course. The only down side we’d say was the limited options for lunch while there - that could have been improved. Perhaps that is a minor thing - we were there to see the cars. All in all it was a fabulous day.

We were unable to attend the 2014 version of the Cobble Beach Concours d'Elegance, but when we were at the Saturday dinner for the Peller Estates Wine Club Members Weekend on April 25, 2015 we sat with a couple who were from Owen Sound. The fellow mentioned that the 2014 event didn’t have the wonderful weather we enjoyed in 2013 so it wasn’t quite as good the second time around. Hopefully our schedules will work out for us to make the trip up to Owen Sound for a future Concours on a lovely autumn day in Georgian Bay.

Classic Cars in Black and White

We thought that many of the images we captured at the 2013 Cobble Beach Concours d’Elegance would look good in black and white considering the subject matter - so, we have created a black and white image gallery with all of the same images in this colour gallery.
